Walking and talking with friends, and delivering The Chieftain this morning, I received documented evidence that the story is true. I did not see John Paul or Charlie. I did see that my name has not been removed from the entryway roster, so I wonder how many of us are still listed after we have vacated the place.
I saw one of my friends policing, i.e. gathering the aluminum cans from, the grounds for recycling. I also made a note of supposedly locked doors still being left ajar for neighborhood friends and children to enter unannouced. This is the breach of security that has resulted in vandalism, the locking of the "Community Room" and the flight of residents to live elsewhere.
Otero County Housing Authority (OCHA) is responsible. There has never been any doubt of this since I first moved to work and live in Rocky Ford many years ago NOW.
I awoke one morning before dawn. Death and trauma weighed heavily on a heart that had been broken even as I was born in the Fall of 1942. Conceived and born in Love, this made no sense.
